      BMW 2 Series to be showcased on 25th of October

      BMW India, the domestic arm of well appreciated German auto maker, seems all prepared to showcase the 2 Series model in the country on October 25. Interestingly, similar to the lines of 3 Series Coupe, which made the way for new 4 Series, the auto maker is planning to replace the 1 Series Coupe with the upcoming 2 Series. Sources close to the development process have revealed that the upcoming 2 Series will be offered in 3 variants, namely 220i, 220d and a performance M235i version.

      It must be noted that BMW India will be officially revealing the details of yet to be launched 2 Series model on 25th of October. However, industry experts are of a view that the 220i variant will come equipped with a 2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which will have the potential to belt out a maximum power of 178 bhp along with a torque of up to 270 Nm. With this superb output, it will smoothly glide from initial to 100 kmph within just 7 seconds, further clocking a top speed of around 230 kmph. Along with, the 220d variant will be incorporated with a 2-litre four-cylinder diesel powertrain, churning out 178 bhp of peak power with a highest torque of 380 Nm. For performance enthusiasts, the performance oriented M235i version will be fitted with a 3-litre turbocharged straight-six cylinder engine, producing a maximum power output of 317 bhp with peak torque of 450 Nm.

      Sources further claimed that in order to lure the domestic buyers, the auto maker will be introducing the 2 Series model in both coupe and convertible options; however nothing is confirmed as of now. Auto analysts believe that similar to the 6 Series model, BMW India will also be introducing the 2 Series Gran Coupe version, which is said to be more spacious and luxurious than the regular trims. However, the BMW officials have not commented on the statement that when the production version of new 2 Series will make its presence in showrooms; however it is highly anticipated that the model will be offered for sale in the first half of 2014.

      Interestingly, its been around 3 years when BMW 1 Series was introduced as 2 Series model for its second generation. It is being said that in the initial stages, the model will be introduced in the coupe version, and thereafter a convertible variant will hit the Indian shores. With the launch of a new model for the price sensitive buyers in the festive season, industry experts are of a view that the German auto maker seems all set to make a impact on the Indian auto market by the end of 2013. Also, the launch of 2 Series in the country will widen the product portfolio of BMW India. Reportedly, post launch, the BMW 2 Series will square off against the likes of upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA, Honda Accord, Volkswagen Passat and Audi A4.
