In one of special events being held in the country, the Blind Car Rally for the visually-impaired citizens kicked off in Nagpur this weekend. The Blind Car Rally has been a flagship initiative of Nagpur Round Table 83 that aims at creating an awareness in the society with regards to the problems faced by the visually-impaired people. Regular drivers drove the vehicles in the rally, but the drivers were being guided by the visually-impaired citizens using a navigator in Braille.

Speaking more on the occasion, Mahadev, a participant at the event said, “It started two years back. We get immense happiness while participating in it because we ourselves cannot drive the car but experience the car driving through others support. We read out the route map in brail script and they drive in that direction.”

The event featured about 100 visually challenged men and women who were required to navigate cars on a pre- selected city circuit. The winners were announced on the basis Time-Speed-Distance (TDS) and required the drivers guided by their visually-impaired partners to drive through the 100 kms circuit. The rally flagged off by the Maharashtra State and Finance Minister Sudhir Munganttiwar began from Krazy Kastle in Ambazari.
