The concept of Compressed Natural Gas or, as everyone calls it, CNG, is one of the best things to have happened for the Indian automobile market and the environment. Eco-friendly, low-cost and efficient, CNG is becoming increasingly popular in the country and many people are going for cars with CNG kits pre-installed in them. Not only this, many people in India are trying to educate themselves about the various types of CNG conversion kits available in the country, something that is really important.

First and foremost thing to know about CNG is that its main component is Methane (CH4), which is the best fuel to come out from gasoline tanks before Liquid Petroleum Gas, or as we know it, LPG. A good quality about CNG is that it is lighter than air and if low density CNG is mixed with air, it does not catch fire. Not only CNG is better than petrol in terms of economy and environment, it is much more safe, given that all kinds of precautions are taken properly. It has ability to emit only Carbon Dioxide and minimal levels of CO3 (Carbon Monoxide) after combustion is the biggest advantage, which is the reason why it is promoted so much by the government.

Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) and Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) are organisations that provide guidance regarding the installation of CNG kits. In terms of number, there are around 20 kits that are approved by the Government of India and are fit for installation in cars across the country. According to sources, a majority of CNG kits are imported to India from European country Italy and South American nation Argentina. Other than these, many kits are also manufactured in India and are certified by the government, making them fit for usage. Some of the best CNG kits available in India are Tomasetto Achille (Argentina and Italy), Pelmag (Argentina), Lovato (Italy), Landirenzo (Italy) and Lomani (Italy).
