While the market awaits the plug-in hybrid Bentayga in the year 2018, reports now suggest that Bentley may have plans to develop a high performance Bentayga Speed model which could be on the same lines as the Continental GT Speed.
Bentley boss Wolfgang Durheimer said, "We are the first in the luxury SUV space and at the moment unopposed, but there are lots of rivals coming to the sector. The question we need to answer is if there is space for all these different body styles." So far, the plug-in hybrid Bentayga, coupe and extended-wheelbase models were the ones expected to be developed. Now, while the extended-wheelbase Bentayga is being primarily targeted at the Chinese and Middle Eastern markets, this version is expected to share the success of the Mulsanne EWB too.
If the coupe and extended-wheelbase models of the Bentayga do well in the market, it would give Bentley a reason to develop the high performance Bentayga Speed. “If we have enough people who want the car, and they are new to the brand rather than people who will choose this Bentley over than another one, then we will consider it," said Rolf Frech, head of engineering.
If the Bentley Bentayga Speed makes it to reality, expect it to lock horns with cars like the Range Rover SVR.
