Bentley looks at building a hybrid Continental GT

Reports state that as the Bentley Bentayga hybrid may debut globally in 2018, the hybrid Continental GT is slated to hit roads shortly after that. Duerheimer revealed that the Continental GT hybrid will have a powertrain that combines the power from a V6 internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The total power is expected to be similar to the current V8’s power output.

Wolfgang Duerheimer said, “PHEV sometimes is mentioned as a transitional technology, however, from my point of view, plug-in hybrid technology provides the best of two worlds.”

Duerheimer believes Bentley plug-in hybrid models will cater to those customers who primarily use their cars in the city due to the stringent emission standards of the future. As a matter of fact, he felt hybrids were better suited to longer driving distances too, considering EVs have limited range.
