Bentley, a luxury car making unit of the Germany based leading car manufacturer Volkswagen Group, is planning to double its global annual sales by year 2017. The company, which sold a total of 7,003 vehicles of its portfolio in last year, is aiming to reach a total sales figure of 17,000 units over the period of next five years. The company looks forward to adding new luxury SUVs in its line-up by year 2015, and plans to sell 3,000 to 5,000 units of SUV in the global market by then.

Speaking on the firm’s future expansion plans, Mr. Wolfgang Duerheimer, CEO, Bentley Motors, said, "I am assuming a robust, double-digit growth for 2012. I expect growth of more than 10 percent for Bentley in China and the United States in 2012."

In year 2007, the sales figures of Bentley were at all time high at 10,014 units. However, the sales of the firm dipped sharply by 24 percent to 7, 605 units, due to global economic slowdown of that time.

While further elaborating the company’s strategy, Mr. Duerheimer added, "We sold 1,187 units, or about 17 percent of our sales, in this region in 2011. With UK sales of 1,031 vehicles, we sold almost as many Bentleys in the UK as in mainland Europe. I am calling on our sales organization to exploit the undeniable potential in continental Europe to a much greater degree."
