      Battle between Volkswagen's cousins: Audi R8 vs Porsche Cayenne

      Audi India, a globally renowned German sports and luxury automotive maker and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, introduced its R8 facelift super sports car in the domestic market in January 2013. At present, the stunning true blood supercar Audi R8 is facing stiff competition from the likes of fellow compatriot Porsche's Cayenne luxury crossover model in the country. Interestingly, both Porsche and Audi are subsidiaries of the German automotive conglomerate- Volkswagen Group.

      The Audi R8 is a pure bred super sports car and appeals to the high speed and performance oriented buyers, whereas Porsche Cayenne is a premium crossover and caters to comfort and safety seeking Indian consumers. The Audi R8 is one of the most sought after supercars available in the domestic car market, besides being the best looking model as well. The Cayenne is premium utility vehicle and has its real competition against Audi Q7 and BMW X6, but competes against R8 in terms of pricing.

      Speaking of under-the-hood specifications of the 2013 Audi R8 super car, the base trim is powered with a 4.2 litre FSI V8 petrol engine that churns out peak power and torque equations of 424 bhp and 430 Nm, respectively. The high end R8 Coupe and Spyder variants come fitted with a 5.2 litre FSI V10 petrol powertrain that rolls out a maximum output power of 518 bhp, along with a highest torque delivery of 530 Nm. The Audi R8 V8 trim zooms from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.3 seconds, whereas the meatier R8 V10 achieves the same feat in just 3.6 seconds. Further, the 2013 R8 facelift sports car is more powerful than its previous model and is fast by 0.3 seconds in the 100 kmph sprint from a standstill.

      On the other hand, Porsche Cayenne S is powered with 4,806 cc, 8-cylinder motor that pumps out a peak output power of 400 bhp at 6500 rpm and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. In manual transmission mode, the luxury crossover can reach a top speed of 258 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds. Porsche Cayenne Turbo trim comes fitted with a 4,806 cc, 8-cylinder motor that produces a peak power output of 500 bhp and develops a maximum torque of delivery 700 Nm. The powerful sports luxury crossover can reach a top speed of 278 kmph and can do the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 4.7 seconds.

      The stunning Audi R8 4.2 FSI V8 coupe comes with price tag of Rs. 1,4 crore , whereas the R8 5.2 FSI V10 trim is retailed to domestic buyers at a pricing of Rs. 1.6 crore. T top end Audi R8 5.2 FSI V10 Spyder model is tagged with a retail value of Rs. 1.74 crore (prices at New Delhi ex-showrooms). On the other hand, Porsche Cayenne is offered to Indian car enthusiasts within a price band of Rs. 60 lakhs to Rs. 1.4 crore in the country.
