Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire was launched in 2008 in domestic market, under the entry level sedan segment and since then it has been presented with couple of makeovers. The recent version of the car was updated in 2012 and is based on third generation Swift platform. Its boot has been bent inside and is not bulging like the previous generation model. The front has been uplifted and perfectly resembles its hatchback version. To keep up with modern day requirements of customers, the car has been equipped with technically enhanced features.

Swift DZire comes with an option of 1.2-litre K series petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. The latter uses Direct Diesel Injection System (DDiS) technology, developing 74 bhp at 190 Nm of peak torque, whereas, the former produces 85 bhp and peak torque of 114 Nm. Options of 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission are included with K-series engine whereas the diesel unit only has a 5-speed manual gearbox. Placed in the bracket of Rs. 5 lakh – Rs. 7.6 lakh, the car is rivalled by Honda Amaze and Chevrolet Sail. Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire has been accorded with many titles in past and till date, it continues to be an optimal choice in its segment.

Maruti Suzuki SX4, on the other hand, flaunts a sleek design and performance oriented engine. Under the hood is a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 103 bhp of maximum power with a peak torque of 145 Nm. The car also comes with an option of 1.3-litre diesel engine, churning out 89 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. All the variants are incorporated with 5-speed manual transmission and deliver impressive fuel economy. Coming in the range of Rs. 7.3 lakh – Rs. 9.9 lakh, the car faces stiff competition from Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna. Maruti Suzuki SX4 is available in a disparate colour range with the shades of oyster blue and French eclair recently added to the pattern.

Experts believe that Swift DZire has been a top-notch product in the entry level sedan segment and has been the game changer for the company. However, Maruti Suzuki SX4 has not been able to accomplish such feats and somehow lags behind in the race of mid-size sedans. Main reasons cited for such failure is the lack of exclusive features which other cars are featuring in the same range.
