Launched with much fanfare just a couple of years ago, Bajaj have decided to stop production of Pulsar 200NS. The bike was the first product of Pune based manufacturer’s partnership with KTM. Based on the Duke 200, the bike sports a 199 cc engine which produces 23.5 bhp and 18.3 Nm of torque. On sale for an ex-showroom price of around Rs. 90,000, the company will soon seize is its production.
The reason Bajaj has decided to do so is its clash with AS200 an AS150. Both these bike fall in the same price category and come from the same stable. Since Bajaj did not want sibling rivalry to hamper sales of both the products, it had to cut one loose. Adventure Sports is latest model of Pulsar and therefore the naked street version had to see its end with the 200 cc engine. The company will soon launch 150NS and 180NS which will retain the current naked design. This means that Bajaj has only decided to discontinue that particular engine variant not the whole bike. The new Naked Streets will have the exact body of a 200NS.
The bike had not received any engine upgrade during its life and was only retailed with new colour schemes if we talk about changes made to the bike during its short stint. Though it was designed on Duke, it lacked the sound that the comparatively expensive one made. 200NS was the first bike of the manufacturer to receive mono-shock suspension and came with a rather short exhaust pipe which ended below shock absorber spring.
AS200 and 200NS are exactly the same bikes except the fairing on the former and a few bits here and there. The pricing was also similar which proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the latter.
