Bajaj’s Quadricycle Qute has received a 1-star rating in a crash test conducted by the Euro NCAP. In terms of adult occupant safety, the Qute scored 28 per cent and was deemed unstable in frontal crash test. Though there were no deformation on mounting points for seat belt or buckle, structural deformation and damaged spot welds indicated that the vehicle would not be able to withstand a higher degree of loading.

During the side impact test, it was found that the head strikes the side roof railing hard, thereby indicating a high probability of serious or fatal injury as the vehicle also misses on side curtain airbag or padding in the area. Chest protection was rated poor as the dummy readings of lateral rib compression were found to be high. Abdomen protection was marginal while pelvis protection was poor.

In the front impact test, the dummy’s head hits the steering wheel hard and with the absence of frontal airbags, the chances of fatal or serious injury is high. Neck protection has been rated as good, however due to presence of hard structures below the dashboard, protection to femur and knee gets a poor protection rating.

The Bajaj Qute is powered by 217 cc single-cylinder water cooled engine mated to 5-speed manual gearbox. In terms of dimensions, it measures 2,752mm in length, 1,312mm in width and 1,650mm in height. The company claims that the Qute is capable of attaining a top speed of 70 kmph while returning a fuel efficiency figure of 36kmpl.
