Riding on the huge success of the previous versions of Bajaj Pulsar, the Bajaj Auto finally made the most awaited bike of the year, Pulsar 200 NS available in Delhi showrooms. Bajaj, keeping in line with its strategy of launching its bikes in phases, first launched the bike in Pune a couple of weeks earlier. Further relying on its formula of phased launch, the manufacturer said that the motorcycle would be available across the country in the coming months.

Earlier, speaking on the launch of the bike in Pune, Mr. Sanjay Saraswat, Vice-President-Marketing, Bajaj Auto had said, “These sporty iconic motorcycles have been a testimony to the company’s engineering prowess. The Pulsar 200 NS showcases next leap in technology and design and will set the standard for others to follow. We are launching the first Pulsar 200 NS in Maharashtra as we feel that the state has played a major role in Pulsar completing the ‘Decade of Dominance’ with 10 years of leadership in the Indian performance motorcycle market. It will then be progressively launched in the rest of the country."

Pulsar 200 NS in Delhi is priced at Rs. 85,000 (ex-showroom) while its on-road price will be Rs. 94,300. The bookings for the bike have started at Bajaj showrooms and deliveries are due to begin soon. Of all the bikes manufactured by Bajaj so far, Pulsar 200 NS is the most technologically sound bike and the company consider this as the major selling point.

The major technological bits of the bike of which the company boasts of are, liquid cooling, a four valve head, triple spark plugs, a six speed gearbox and monoshock suspension layout. It is powered by a liquid-cooled single cylinder 4-valve SOHC 199.5cc engine. It delivers a peak power of 23.2 bhp at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 18.3 Nm at 8000 rpm. Much to everyone’s surprise, the Pulsar 200NS has its bottom end like KTM Duke 200, a bike that was launched by KTM in early 2012.

Bajaj holds 40 per cent stake in KTM, the Australian motorcycle maker, and the Duke 200 is also manufactured by Bajaj. The future Bajaj bikes are expected to use more technology derived from KTM’s sportsbikes. Duke 125 and 200 are also manufactured by Bajaj and exported to countries across the world. Since the labour cost in India is still very cheap, it becomes very economical for KTM to get its bikes built in India.

The technology that Pulsar 200 NS offers at such a nominal price is something for which the company deserves praise. One can expect the Pulsar 200 NS to be a huge success and rule the two wheeler market.
