Bajaj Auto, one of the leading motorcycle manufacturers in the country, is spearheading to launch its third bike in the 100 cc segment after Bajaj Discover and Bajaj Platina by October-November priced around Rs.40,000. The new bike has been code named as D-104 and its foray into the Indian market will stiffen the competition with Hero MotoCorp’s flagship models Splendor and Passion along with its new offering, 110 cc Dream Yuga.

As per the bike’s development team, the company has endeavoured to roll out the most modern technology embedded bike at an economical price. The high end features such as a digital instrument cluster, LED lights, an electric start and front and rear disc brakes is anticipated to take the segment offering to a whole new level. In a bid to give the vehicle a lighter stance, Bajaj Auto refrained from using steel and has utilized fibre and plastic to enhance the fuel efficiency quotient with increased price economy along with frisky handling.

Bajaj Auto has been known for targeting the value segment, often termed as ‘commuter premium segment’ but tasted meagre success with models such as Caliber and Wind intended to outpace Hero MotoCorp’s sale of three bikes on every four bikes in India.

In the 110 cc or less segment, Bajaj Auto had scored a sale of 310,723 units during April to June 2012 comprising of Discover, CT, Platina and Boxer. While the sale of Passion, Splendor, CD Dawn and CD Deluxe badged under Hero MotoCorp boosted fourfold higher as compared to Bajaj Auto during the period under review.

It is anticipated that this new 100 cc bike from Bajaj’s stable will be either an extended version of Pulsar or a new Discover in the 100 cc segment.
