Bajaj Auto is planning to introduce a number of new models in the Indian auto market, including six new variants in Discover series and two new models of its flagship bike Pulsar. On this move of the Pune based auto maker, few auto analysts are of a view that the Bajaj Auto is trying to regain its lost ground from the Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India as the latter has outpaced the former for second position in the two wheeler segment of the Indian auto industry. It is believed that the new launches will take place in the coming one year, which will help Bajaj Auto to consolidate its position in the Indian auto market.
Along with aggressive plans to increase its presence in the country, the auto maker is also looking ahead at the international markets. Sources close to the development process said that the company is foreseeing the launch of new models as a key to strengthen its position. The launch of two new Pulsars is anticipated to be a mass volume puller for Bajaj Auto. Reportedly, one of the models will be introduced under the currently offered Pulsar 200 NS, whereas the other model will be pitched at a higher scale.
Sources further said that the auto maker is initially planning to introduce the high end version of Pulsar, which is expected to come equipped with a 375 cc engine. The manufacturing platform of this bike is expected to be shared from the KTM Duke 390. Along with this, the smaller version will be placed in 150 cc segment, which is recording decent sales as of now. Coming to the six new variants in Discover series, all the models are anticipated to witness the Indian daylight before the end of 2013. Among the six new launches, four will continue to target the price sensitive Indian buyers with price tags of sub-Rs. 50000. The other two models are believed to cross this mark and come as sports bikes for the Indian buyers.
Presently, Bajaj Auto has been offering five models in Discover series, namely Discover 150, 125, 125 ST, 100T and 100. Industry experts are of a view that the upcoming models will be placed somewhere between the currently offered models. However, it may also happen that the auto maker may discontinue few outgoing models to make some space for the upcoming models.
