Foreseeing a good future in the Indian car market, many auto companies have ambitiously launched their new cars, packed with high end technology. A new innovation induced within next generation cars is the automatic transmission system, which is now offered in even small cars. World renowned auto makers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, Skoda and Volkswagen have shifted their efforts to produce low budget car, equipped with most of the advanced technologies.
Recently Maruti Suzuki has come up with an all new A Star, which is assimilated with a 998 cc KB series engine. The maximum power churned out by this car is 65 bhp at 6200 rpm, whereas the peak torque attained is 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. To assist the powerful engine of this car, it is mated with a four speed automatic transmission system.
Following the league, Hyundai has also come up with its i20 automatic transmission some time back. The 1.4 litre gamma petrol engine of this car is facilitated with a four speed automatic transmission. Along with this, the car is provided with effective six driving modes, cutting edge variable line pressure system and overdrive lock facility. All these factors in automatic transmission ensure longer engine life and smoother drive as compared to the manual transmission.
Two variants of Honda City are also offered in automatic transmission options. The 1497 cc, 1.5 litre SOHC engine of this car holds four cylinders and 16 i-VTEC valves. In order to add to the potential of this engine, it is coupled with a five speed automatic transmission system with paddle shift and one reverse gear. Moreover, the automatic transmission version of this car delivers fuel economy of 15.6 kmpl.
Joining the bandwagon, Skoda has introduced its ultra low cost new sedan, Rapid. The sedan is available in both six speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and five speed manual transmission for those who prefer traditional set-up. Right from leisurely cruise to racing sports mode, the automatic transmission system of this car offers different kind of driving options. The automatic transmission is offered in both options of Rapid, namely the Elegance and Ambition.
Volkswagen has also offered a petrol version of its Vento in automatic transmission. The car is incorporated with a four cylinder in-line DOHC engine, which has the displacement of 1598 cc. Maximum power produced by the engine of this car is 103 bhp at 5250 rpm, whereas peak torque attained is 153 Nm at 3800 rpm. To assist the powerful engine of this car, it is mated with a six speed Tiptronic automatic transmission system.
