There have been several price hikes in a short span of time but the auto industry in India continues to post robust sales growth. Auto companies in India have recently hiked prices of their products owing to new emission norms, rising input costs and excise duty roll back but in spite of these Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motors, Toyota Kirloskar Motors, et al have posted healthy sales growth in India.

Tata Motors posted 52.47 percent growth in sales in April 2010 to 57,202 units compared to 37,518 units in the same month last year. Exports in April grew by over two-fold at 3,137 units compared to 1,261 units in the same month last year.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors reported 77.23 percent growth to 6001 units in April 2010 compared to 3386 units in the same period last year. "We are happy to announce our quantum increase in sales for the month of April 2010, which goes on to prove our customers faith in Toyota brand," TKM Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) Sandeep Singh said.

General Motors started the year with a bang when it launched Chevrolet Beat this year. It is still going steady and healthy in the Indian market with strong sales pouring in from Beat, Spark and the new Chevrolet Cruze. The company sold 3,507 units of the hatchback Spark, 692 units of the sedan Cruze and 3,852 units of the latest compact car Beat in April 2010. The company has recently ramped up production by adding second shifts at Halol and Talegaon plants to meet the increased demand of its products.
