SsangYong Motors, the Korean subsidiary of the Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra, will start the assembly operations of its global portfolio models in the Indian market very soon. The company had recently announced that it will be assembling its utility vehicles in the Indian market, instead of importing these as a CBU (completely built unit), so that the heavy duty levied on the import of CBUs can be avoided. Assembling its vehicles locally will enable the car maker to place its vehicle more competitively in the price conscious Indian market.

The company will assemble the Rexton SUV in the country, and will extend its assembly operations to the other models later on. The Rexton SUV was showcased at the Delhi International Auto Expo 2012, where it was appreciated for its looks by the visiting car enthusiasts. Powered by a 2.7 liter diesel engine, the Rexton model will be carrying a number of advanced technological features. Next one in the product line –up of SsangYong is Korando C SUV, which was also showcased at the auto expo.

In a recent statement, SsangYong Motor Company’s President, Mr. Lee Yoo-il, said, that the firm is looking forward at India as its primary market for the expansion of its operations, which will later on expanded to the Russian market in year 2013. The company is aiming to sell up to 6000 units of its portfolio models in the Indian market per annum.
