Nissan, Japan’s second largest automobile manufacturer, showcased a host of products at the 11th Edition of the Delhi Auto Expo, organised between 5th January and 11th January. On the first day of the Auto Expo, Nissan revealed its latest multi utility vehicle (MUV) Evalia. The other models at the Nissan stall included Leaf EV and GT-R. Nissan’s model Leaf reflects the pinnacle of ‘automotive principles’ and it is the ‘first series-production family-sized pure electric vehicle.’ Currently, the Leaf is available in North America, Japan and European Nations, wherein re-charging stations have come up in a big way.

The GT-R of Nissan, being termed as one of the fastest cars in the world, at the Nürburgring track registered a lap time below 7 minutes and 30 seconds. The Evalia is globally known as NV200 and is a ‘seven seater family car’. It will be competing with models like the Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova in the Indian automobile market. Highlighting features of the car include reverse camera, power steering intelligent key options, plush interiors with multi-use functionality and many others.

The company, however, has not yet declared the Evalia’s price range or its launch date, which is most likely to be in the later half of 2012. The Nissan Evalia will be an addition to the already existing Nissan’s range of locally built Micra and Sunny. Other Nissan models such as the X-TRAIL SUV, 370Z sports car and Teana luxury sedan are imported in the country. The manufacturers are looking forward to the launch of the Evalia in India as it marks Nissan’s entry into a newer segment of the Indian market.

Nissan Evalia will be fitted with a 1.5-litre DCi engine that will produce a power in the range of 84 to 103 hp. It will be manufactured at the Nissan production facility at Oragadam in Chennai. Gilles Normand, Corporate Vice-President, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., said “Our progress in India has been exceptional. An impressive rise in sales, award-winning quality from locally-built products, and an expanding range of innovative cars from a growing dealer network underlines the strategic importance of India to Nissan's future growth plans."
