      Auto Expo 2012: New Toyota Prius enters Indian market with starting price tag of Rs.27.39 Lakhs

      One of the leading Japan based auto maker, Toyota, has announced the launch of the new variant of its mid size hybrid sedan, Prius in the price range of Rs. 27.39 Lakhs – 29.40 Lakhs(ex-showroom Delhi) at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012. The auto giant made an entry in the Indian market through a joint venture with the Kirloskar Group in 1997 and had launched the Prius in that year internationally, with a global sale of 24 lakhs units.

      The new version of the compact hybrid sedan claims to have the exceptional fuel efficiency and the powerful driving performance of the original Prius. In addition, its technology has stepped into introducing one of the most innovative advancements in the form of the Solar Ventilation System along with its present battery technology. This feature aims at ventilating the inside of the cabin when the vehicle is parked, with the help of the electricity generated by the solar panel affixed on the moon roof.

      At the Delhi International Auto Expo 2012, Shekar Viswanathan, Deputy Managing Director (Commercial), Toyota Kirloskar Motor, was quoted as saying, “The introduction of the Prius was Toyota’s endeavor to bring in advanced automotive hybrid technology to India with an aim to initiate and encourage the hybrid market in India. We hope to see more Prius customers and contribute to the growth of the Indian hybrid market and thereby contribute to a greener tomorrow.”

      Moreover, the new Prius is also featured with the Easy Seat accessory, which is a customized swivel seat aimed at making conveyance more comfortable for the passengers with impaired mobility. Besides, the car hosts of re-designed headlamps, front grill, front bumper, alloy caps, turn indicator with ORVM retract and LED tail lamps.

      The sales volume of the Toyota Prius in India is 150 units so far, and the sales target for this financial year has not yet been disclosed by the auto maker.
