      At the 2012 Auto Expo, the leading car manufacturer of India, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, showcased a new concept for compact Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), named as XA Alpha. During that time, the model was the main highlight for the auto maker at the previously held motor show. Industry experts and car buffs were left surprised with the kind of design that Maruti Suzuki gave to its XA Alpha. The muscular stance and the protruding wheel arches blended ruggedness in compact SUV concept and that gained a lot of popularity amongst the masses. It was predicted that that Maruti Suzuki would build cars based on the lines of its concept and the company even said that it would making its new Gypsy model on the same platform of XA Alpha. Apart from it, the company said that it took over 10 months to develop the XA Alpha concept from scratch and it took a dedicated team of 5 engineers from both the companies, Maruti and Suzuki, to make this sort of a vehicle.

      Since then, the car enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the arrival of the compact SUV based on the platform of its XA Alpha concept. Now with 2014 Auto Expo fast approaching, it is expected that the most cherished car maker in India will finally launch its compact SUV bearing the same design of its concept car showcased at the previously held mega event. After the launch XA Alpha based car, Maruti Suzuki will enter into the realm of compact SUV cars for the first time, something which every major auto maker is doing presently. Industry experts are betting that upcoming vehicle of Maruti Suzuki shall be launched in both petrol and diesel versions. In terms of pricing the XA Alpha concept based car, auto analysts believe that Maruti Suzuki might offer its upcoming vehicle aggressively, eyeing the kind of competition that currently prevails in the compact SUV segment. So with that the presumed price of the car might be somewhere between Rs. 8 lakh and Rs.10 lakh.

      Since the company has not made any official announcements regarding the specifications of its yet to be launched car, it is expected that Maruti Suzuki might give away the same K-Series engine, similar to most of its petrol cars. Whereas for the diesel variant, the 1.3-litre DDiS unit is expected to be packed within the compact SUV. It must be noted that since the car is in a development phase, the power and torque generation capacities of the engine remain unknown as of now.

      Considering that XA Alpha will be introduced with the same engine options that currently powers the cars of Maruti Suzuki, it is anticipated that the compact SUV might give a fuel economy of around 12-14 kmpl for both diesel and petrol variants. Coming to availability of automatic transmission besides manual one in the upcoming SUV, it is said that in initial stages, the auto maker might adhere to providing a manual gearbox. While for the 2WD and 4WD driving options, there is distinct possibility that Maruti Suzuki might provide both the options with its compact SUV.

      Talking about features, potential buyers can expect automatic air conditioning, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), airbags and steering mounted controls to be provided in the upcoming model. However, it is expected that the upcoming compact SUV of Maruti Suzuki might be equipped with projector headlamps, as this feature was seen in the recently launched Stingray hatchback. At present, no concrete details are available about the car but as sources cite, the compact SUV of Maruti Suzuki might make its headway start in the Indian auto market during the 2014 Auto Expo.
