Maruti Suzuki India Limited is busy upgrading and revamping all its models in its product portfolio. It intends to increase the strength of its R&D team from 700 to at least 1000 by this year. IV Rao, Maruti’s Head (R&D) and Siddiqui, Head (HR) have met around 100 R&D personnel in the US that were earlier working for companies in the US.

Various auto majors like Ford Motors, General Motors, Chrysler, Honda have laid off thousands of engineers and research professionals. Many of these engineers are Indians that have either been handed over pink-slips or are on the verge of losing their jobs. “The majority of these aspirants are Indian engineers with a experience of 6 to 20 years. Many are keen on coming and working in India while others are exploring employment opportunities on contract basis,’’ said an official who requested anonymity.

Maruti is in the process of setting up India’s one of the largest R&D facility on nearly 400 acres of land. It intends to invest Rs. 5000 crores to set up this facility which will be the largest R&D facilities outside Japan for the first time. The company is already in talks with the Haryana State government for acquiring land for its new project.
