Audi unveils its new A3 luxury sedan at 2013 Shanghai Motor Show

Audi, the German luxury automotive marque and subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, has pulled the covers of its much awaited A3 premium sedan at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The cute Audi A3 model is one of the most awaited showcases from the German luxury car maker and is expected to see Indian daylight sometime by the end of 2013 calendar year. Upon its commercial launch in the global auto markets, the A3 would be among the cheapest offerings in Audi’s product portfolio.

The A3 saloon is Audi’s answer to the imminent future competition from the likes of Mercedes-Benz’s B-Class, A-Class and CLA Coupe models. Further, the newly unveiled Audi A3 could pose stiff competition to BMW 1 Series hatchback and sedan versions, and also to the stunning Volvo V40 Cross Country in terms of pricing. As per reports, the German auto maker has also developed a 3-door A3 hatchback and 5-door A3 Sportback models on the same platform, but without the boot.

Coming to under-the-hood specifications of Audi A3, the ultra modish premium saloon is powered with three different powertrain options- 2.0 litre TDI, 1.4 litre TFSI and 1.8 litre TFSI. Audi A3’s 2.0 litre TDI engine is a diesel engine with highest power and torque equation rated at 150 bhp and 320 Nm, respectively. Further, the 1.4 litre TFSI and 1.8 litre TFSI are petrol engines with peak power outputs of 140 bhp and 180 bhp, respectively. Depending upon the power-mill under its hood, Audi A3 sedan would be offered with an option of a 6 speed manual transmission system or the cutting edge S-Tronic automatic gearbox.

As per market estimates, the ultra modish Audi A3 sedan could be introduced in Indian auto market with starting price close to Rs. 20 lakh. At present, the Q3 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and A4 luxury sedan are the cheapest offerings in the German auto maker’s product portfolio in the country. Therefore, domestic premium car enthusiasts would be keeping their fingers crossed in anticipation of the arrival of Audi A3 at Indian shores.
