Audi India, the domestic arm of German premium car maker, has lined-up an array of launches to transform 2014 into a revolutionary year for itself. Being a part of product offensive program, the company is planning to introduce its most powerful sports car, RS 7 in the country. Along with, the launch of A3 sedan is speculated by the industry experts. According to a report published by TOI, Audi India is witnessing a stiff competition from its German compatriot Mercedes-Benz from last few months. However, in 2013, the brand with four rings managed to report 11 per cent growth and came up as the first luxury auto maker to deliver more than 10,000 units in an year.

The brand with a three pointed star ended 2013 with sales of more than 9,000 units, which is quite close to figures of Audi India. It must be noted that Mercedes-Benz outpaced Audi in few monthly sales during 2013. However, with new launches in pipeline, Audi India plans to create a stir in the market. The Head of Audi India, Joe King told TOI, “Audi has emerged as a winning brand by closing the year on a record-making note... we look forward to continue our performance in 2014.” Reportedly, RS 7 will come equipped with the most powerful engine of Audi and is expected to make its debut in January 2014. Expressing his views on the same, King said, “At 560 bhp, this is even more powerful than the R8 sports car and is sure to get the pulses racing.”

Interestingly, RS 7 will be a niche model for the company and will be targeted at super-rich section of society. On the other hand, A3 will be an entry level premium sedan from the company, which will be targeted to mass buyers. The upcoming sedan is expected to make its foray at the Auto Expo 2014, which is anticipated to be priced somewhere around Rs. 25 lakh.

The auto maker is elated with its new creation and aims at achieving similar feat which were attained by Q3 in compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment. The latter was launched in national capital in mid-2013 and instantly was able to turn some heads. Audi also proposes to launch the new generation model of A8 sedan, which is expected to arrive in mid-2014. It will be placed in the luxury car segment against the likes of Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which in turn will make its debut on 8th January. In this regard, King quoted, “Our aim is to offer a diversified portfolio across price points.”

The adversary of German trio namely Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW is renowned globally and India has just become a spectator of this fierce rivalry. Domestic luxury car market is estimated to sell 35,000 units every year and with the upcoming models from trio, the battle is expected to witness a much stronger competition. It will be interesting to see what tactics Audi employs to take lead and stabilise its domestic presence to an upper-most level.
