Audi India that is planning to launch the next-generation Q7 in India by the end of 2015, is aggressively testing the vehicle here. And a latest test mule reveals that the company might also bring in the performance version of the SUV – the SQ7.

The Audi SQ7 prototype looks similar to the regular Q7 test mule. Though, both the test mules can be differentiated by a quad-exhaust, which is present only on the regular version. Unlike the Audi’s S lineup models that usually come powered with high-performance petrol engines, the SQ7 will feature a V8 turbo diesel engine with an electric turbocharger. This powertrain can deliver an estimated power output of 400bhp. A 4.2-litre engine could also be on offer.

Talking about the performance, the SQ7 will be capable to achieve 0-100kmph in 5.5 seconds, while maintaining a top speed of 300kmph. Based on the MLB platform, the new-gen Audi Q7 will be powered with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that produces 272bhp and 600Nm of torque. It will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, combined with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.

Upon its launch, the Audi SQ7 will rival the Porsche Cayenne (diesel-powered), BMW X5M, Mercedes GL63 AMG and the Range Rover Sport. The performance-oriented SQ7 is expected to make its global debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Though, the company hasn’t revealed any details about its India launch plans.

For people not in the know, Audi India has plans to launch at least 8-10 cars in the next one year.
