What you see in the picture is the second-generation Audi A5 and S5 coupes. Audi unveiled these cars at the company’s headquarters in Germany yesterday.
Audi’s all new A5 and S5 coupes don’t look very different from the outgoing model but engineers have worked extensively on these models. A lot more aluminium and high-strength steel has been fused into the new design in a bid to shed additional weight. Audi admitted that the weight reduction in the new model stands at 59kgs. Which is impressive when you factor the surplus length of 45mm.
From what was mentioned at the event, Audi has got five engines in store for the A5 in Europe. These motors are slated to be more powerful by up to 20 per cent than the previous models, and will also offer to be more frugal by 20 per cent. The entire engine range will make use of either the seven-speed or the eight-speed gearbox. European buyers will also get the opportunity to opt for a six-speed manual gearbox. Audi’s new S5 will get power from the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine that spins out 354bhp and hits 100kmph in 4.7sec. An eight-speed automatic transmission is expected to release momentum to the wheels. In addition to the racier body kit, the new S5 will also benefit from braking and handling upgrades to manage the increase in power.
“Our coupes turn every day into a holiday for our customers,” proclaimed Audi chairman of the board Rupert Stadler as he revealed the all new A5 and S5 coupes in Germany. “We have more performance and better fuel economy, much more space, and the standard spec brings our midsize coupes to the level of a luxury car.”
