Audi re-submits application to trademark Q4 name

Audi has reportedly re-applied to trademark the Q4 name soon after Samsung SDI (creative energy and materials solution provider) established its intention to invest 400 billion won (Rs 2390 crore) in a new battery facility in Hungary.

Thanks to this, there are speculations that the Q4 (an Audi TT-based SUV) could sport plug-in variants. It so happens that Samsung’s new battery factory at God in Hungary, is very close to the Audi TT production plant in Gyor. It makes sense that as Audi could make this TT-based Q4 at this facility, getting a battery pack supply chain functional by the time the badge trademark and car development is ready, is important. Also, the Q4 plug-in hybrid should make its debut more or less the same time Samsung’s battery factory goes live in 2018.

       Audi to trademark Q4 name

As Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had rights to the Q2 and Q4, Audi has been in talks with them to attain the rights to trademark these names. As soon as the companies settled the matter on the Q2 badge, Audi swiftly got the show rolling on the Q2 SUV a few months ago. Going by these events, we may get to see the Q4 badge on an Audi soon enough so that it can compete with the BMW X4 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

As the car electrification revolution intensifies, consumers are all set to get spoilt for choice.
