Audi will launch a petrol version of the Q7 for the Indian market on September 1. This will be the first major addition to this generation of Q7 since its launch here in late 2017 and this is the first time that Audi is offering a petrol option for its flagship SUV.

Audi Q7 petrol What to expect

The petrol Q7 is a major product in South Africa and the Middle East where petrol takes precedence over diesel models. In the former, it is offered with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol while the latter gets it with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor which is offered in the 40 TFSI and 45TFSI state of tune.

The 2.0-litre motor in the 40 TFSI state of tune produces 249bhp/370Nm with power going to all four wheels via an eight-speed AT and quattro AWD system. The more powerful South Africa spec motor produces 329bhp/440Nm with an eight-speed AT and quattro AWD. The Audi Q7’s direct rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X5 both have 3.0-litre V6 petrol options and this seems like a stronger choice when matching up to the rivals.

The design will go unchanged in the diesel model save for the badging at the rear where TFSI will replace the TDI badge. Audi is expected to offer this Q7 petrol in one top-of-the-line Technology  trim where the car will be loaded with features like the virtual cockpit, Audi MMI infotainment system and of course multi-zone climate control.

We believe that Audi will price this Q7 around Rs 3-4 lakhs lower than the equivalent diesel model which puts it in a price range of around Rs 74 lakhs. This would position it between the likes of the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLS400 and the Land Rover Discovery HSE Luxury petrol variant.
