Audi plans A3 Cabriolet for India, launch expected within 12 months

Rumour mills have been humming regarding the launch of more entry level cars from the stables of Audi in India in the upcoming months. It has been learnt from our close sources that after the launch of A3 sedan in India, Audi could bring Cabriolet version of A3 in domestic market. Launch will most likely take place next year around the same time. The German luxury auto major had shown glimpse of the vehicle at 12th edition of Delhi motor show held in the month of February earlier this year.

The A3 Cabriolet will most likely underpin parent company, Volkswagen’s famousMQBplatform and is expected to be launched in both petrol and diesel variants in India. Under the hood we could see a 1.8 litre petrol engine borrowed from A4 sedan and 2.0 litre diesel engine currently doing duty in Audi Q3 S. Speculations suggest that A3 Cabriolet could be assembled locally in India alongside A3 sedan at the company’s manufacturing unit. Bringing the vehicle throughCKDroute will allow the car maker to price it competitively.

With launch of more such entry level vehicles in India, Audi could continue its reign in the luxury automotive segment. Trailed by BMW in terms of sales, aggressively priced cars will help the auto major to topple its German counterpart. In July, Audi will organize, A3 sedan’s test drive inUdaipurfollowed by its launch in August.
