      Audi intends to beat BMW and Mercedes by 2015

      Audi, the German luxury auto manufacturer has its eyes set on the fast growing luxury market in India, in order to beat its arch rivals Mercedes and BMW.

      The third biggest luxury car maker after BMW and Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen stated that it is mulling over to achieve 50 per cent growth in sales, as it gets ready to launch new models in the Indian market. "By 2015 we aim to be the number one in the Indian luxury car market," Micheal Perschke, Audi India Head revealed. He further added that the company sees the luxury auto market growing at 50000 units annually in the coming five years as against 15000 units in the last year.

      When inquired about company sales goals in this year, Micheal stated, "We are aiming to sell a minimum of 4,500 units and we expect the luxury car market to grow to 20,000-25,000 units." The company registered 81 per cent growth as against the previous year where it sold 3,003 units.

      Its toughest competitor BMW managed to remain on the top spot in 2010 by selling as many as 6,246 units. Whereas, Mercedes has a sales of 5,819 units to its credit in the period ranging Jan-Dec 2010 thus registering highest ever sales clocked by the company pan India. Audi revealed its sales figures for the month of Jan 2011 where it sold 480 units as against 306 units sold last year same month.

      The company today launched its sedan A8 in India, priced at 89 lac (ex-showroom Delhi), bookings of which have crossed 150 units to be delivered in the coming 3-4 months. Audi plans to launch A6 and A7 this year.
