As per reports, Audi India witnessed a 37 per cent growth in sales at 770 units as compared to 562 units sold in the year-ago period. Further, the German auto maker wrapped up the January to April period of 2013 with 19.16 per cent growth. The company sold 3,386 units between January and April months this year, as against the sales of 2,831 units witnessed in the corresponding year-ago period.

Speaking of total sales recorded during the 2012-13 financial year, the Indian arm of Audi managed to sell an impressive 9,350 units. The company had sold just 6,169 units in the previous 2011-12 fiscal and the latest figures equate to a remarkable 51.5 per cent Year-on-Year (YoY) growth.

Expressing his views on the impressive sales numbers registered during April 2013, Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India, was quoted as saying, “We were aiming for the pole position in 2015. To achieve it almost 2 years before the target date is a landslide success. As per reports, we are not only No. 1 in the first quarter of 2013 but the whole of FY 2012-13. India is the first market in Asia after China to claim the No.1 spot. However, I think 2013 will be a very competitive year. The best teamwork and the best strategy will make the difference and the customer will be the ultimate winner. This sales result demonstrates our ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’. Today we offer the best equipped, most reliable and advanced models with the most impressive build quality in India and our customers have appreciated and acknowledged the same.”

Audi India had a highly eventful April 2013 with the launch of its super car R8 V10 plus in the country. The German auto maker also carried out its second season of its immensely popular Audi Sportscar Experience (ASE) at Buddh International Circuit (BIC) situated in Greater Noida. It is going to be interesting to see if Audi is able to maintain its position at the top of Indian luxury car market, since BMW and Mercedes-Benz would not be sitting idle and could embark on a more aggressive campaign in the country.
