Audi Q3 might get a petrol engine in India

The Audi Q3 sold in India could get a 1.4-litre petrol engine in addition to its diesel line-up. The carmaker has imported a Q3 30 TFSI recently in our country for its homologation process.

Currently, Audi is offering the Q3 in India only with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel mill, which is available in two states of tune - 138bhp and 174bhp. On the other hand, the new 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine is a turbocharged unit churning out 148bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. It comes mated to a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. This powerplant also features the cylinder on demand function that shuts down an engine cylinder as per the running requirement for better fuel economy.

Audi has currently imported only a single unit of this Q3 30 TFSI version. This particular engine is also seen under the hood of the upcoming A4 sedan. It should be noted that Audi's entry-level A3 and A8 sedans only have petrol variants as of now. The popular Q Series SUVs are offered only in diesel options. So looking at the significant shift in demand for petrol vehicles in India, it won't be a surprise if more petrol variants are introduced in Audi India's line-up. The introduction of the new petrol engine will also mean a drop in the entry-level price tag for the Q3 range.
