The Indian unit of the leading luxury car maker Audi has commenced the production of its recently unveiled sedan A6, at its manufacturing unit at Aurangabad plant in Gujarat.

In a statement given on Thursday, Audi India Head Michael Perschke said, "The commencement of production of this next generation Audi A6 is in line with our long term strategy for India and is a precursor to its much-awaited launch later this year."

Initially, the company will be manufacturing about 2,000 units of Audi A6 sedan per annum from the Aurangabad facility. The facility is already producing various Audi models in the Indian market including the likes of sedan Audi A4 and luxury sports utility vehicle Audi Q5. Since September 2007, when the company commenced the production at this plant, it has already rolled-out 5,000 units.

While further elaborating on the company’s plans in the country, Mr. Perschke said, "Audi India aims to manufacture more than 4,600 units in 2011, compared to 2,466 units last year. By 2015, Audi India targets to roll out up to 6,000 units each year."

The new Audi A6 model will be offered in both petrol and diesel versions in the Indian market.
