German car manufacturer Audi, which is owned by the Volkswagen Group, has taken the curtains off its new concept vehicle Audi A7 Sportback H-tron Quattro. The brand with the four rings did that in a subtle manner when it gave information about the unveiling in Los Angeles on the firm’s official website. An ambitious concept, the Audi A7 H-tron Quattro concept is a fuel cell hydrogen vehicle that has a plug-in hybrid setup, which provides a sneak-peek into the future of this particular technology.

From what the images have revealed, this concept vehicle is quite similar to Audi A7 but the mechanical configuration is yet to be decided. Sources claim that the Audi A7 Sportback H-tron Quattro is going to be distinctly different from the production model that currently on sale. The new concept vehicle features hydrogen fuel cell along with an electric motor driving the rear wheels. It is claimed that this model can run on electricity for a distance of 50 km. On the other hand, a single kilogram of hydrogen will be able to cover a distance of 100 km.

There are a lot of exciting features in the new concept vehicle, one of them being the four hydrogen tanks that are placed below the trunk. The benefit of these hydrogen tanks is that they facilitate a distance in excess of 500 km. Also, a complete refill of these tanks takes around three minutes. The car has a regenerative system for braking, which boosts the overall efficiency in its performance.

According to claims made by the German manufacturer, this car has the ability to reach 100 kmph from scratch in around 7.9 seconds. The top speed that can be clocked by this car is 180 kmph. The Audi A7 Sportback H-tron Quattro, at the moment, is going to remain as a concept vehicle and there are no plans of a production model being made.
