The Indian unit of leading German luxury car maker Audi has announced on Monday that it will add three new luxury cars in its India portfolio, in year 2011. The cars that are lined-up for the India launch during this year include Audi A6, A7 and A8. While the A8 model will be rolled-out in next month, the Audi A6 and A7 will mark their debut in the country later this year.
Speaking to the reporters on the occasion of launch of Audi R8 5.2 FSI at its showroom in Chennai, Mr. Michael Perschke, head of Audi India said, "We will be adding three more cars to our basket in India in 2011. The Audi A8 model will hit roads beginning February. Audi A7 will be made available by June while Audi A6 can be seen on India roads in the fourth quarter of this year."
With the addition of these new car models in its portfolio, Audi India aims to take its market share to 30% from existing 20% by the end of this year. The company aims to sell 4,500 cars during calendar year 2011, as compared to 3003 units sold in the last calendar year. “We will maintain the same pace this year too and are aiming at selling 4,500 cars in the Indian market. The launch of Audi A6 later this year will give us additional momentum," Mr. Michael said.
