Audi A3 saloon coming in mid July

India is eagerly awaiting launch of Audi’s competitively priced A3 sedan. With the launch of A3, Audi will not just induct its cheapest offering in India but it will also introduce the luxury compact sedan segment that was so far absent in India. If the product works, this could open doors for more such vehicles in domestic market from various auto makers.

The sedan was earlier speculated to come in August, but according to latest reports Audi could bring the new saloon in India during second week of July. Touted to be the smallest luxury sedan in domestic market, new Audi A3 will come with following dimensions-it will be 4,460 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and will possess a wheelbase of 2,640 mm. Luggage space will also be decent at 425 litres,offering ample storage space to the passengers.

The company will proffer A3 in India as a completely knocked down unit and hence the saloon will be assembled locally at the company’s manufacturing unit. Thus, local assembling will give Audi the advantage of pricing the saloon aggressively; an expected price ranging between Rs 23lakhto Rs 27lakhis being speculated for the new saloon.

Audi A3 is already available for sale in various overseas markets where it is offered in two petrol and one diesel engine options, among the petrol variants, the entry level trims are housed with a 1.4 litreTSFIgasoline motor that belts out a maximum power output of 140Bhp. On the other hand the high end petrol variants are equipped with a 1.8 litreTSFImotor, capable of pumping out a top power output of 180Bhp. Diesel variants are loaded with a robust 2.0 litreTDIpowerplantthat is good for 150Bhpof pinnacle power and 320Nmof peak torque.

In India, Audi will offer both petrol and diesel variants of the saloon, however to keep the price under affordable tag, A3 petrol variant could come packed with the low displacement 1.4 litreTSFIengine. A six-speed manual and a seven-speed S-Tronicautomatic gearbox could be put on offer. It is being said the new Audi A3 will be extremely frugal specially the diesel variant that is likely to return a fuel efficiency of 25kmson a litre, petrol trims on the other hand are expected to deliver 20kmsin a litre.
