Audi had unveiled the A3 sedan at the 2014 New Delhi Auto Expo in India at the beginning of the year. Here, it was also accompanied by the A3 Cabriolet – the open-top sibling. The brand is expected to launch the two-door car, which offers a four-seated arrangement in the next month.
The A3 Cabriolet draws inspiration from the hard-top sedan A3 and has a length of 4.42 metres, 1.79 metres width and a height of 1.41 metres. With a total wheelbase of 2.6 metres, the car comes with a soft fabricated roof, which stretches over the kinematic lightweight mechanism designed from magnesium steel. The top is capable of opening or closing electrically and hydraulically with a button-press within 18 seconds, when the car speeds up to 50 kilometres per hour. It looks almost similar to the A3 sedan, however has a sporty appearance.
The Audi A3 Cabriolet is available globally in one diesel engine as well as two petrol engine options. This car is powered by a 1.4-litre TFSI engine, which is capable of generating 140 bhp, while the 1.8-litre TFSI engine churns out 180 bhp power. The lower displacement engine is capable of reaching 100 kilometres per hour from ignition in 9.1 seconds, while the latter reaches the same feat in 7.8 seconds. The engine sends power to the wheels via a seven-speed, dual clutch, S-tronic transmission.
The design of this model is youthful and modern, and the roof-down feature offers a pleasant driving experience. This car is tagged between 45 lakhs to 50 lakhs INR and is supposed to go in the market in the coming month.
