Aston Martin Valkyrie could be a Le Mans contender

Le Man's recent regulation changes could see Aston Martin’s near production ready Valkyrie enter the competion. The LMP1 is one of the most competitive segments in Le Mans but it could undergo a few regulation changes in the future. The changes could mean good news for Aston Martin if the FIA changes regulations to allow race-modified versions of hypercars to compete. That would mean Aston letting its Valkyrie loose on the track.

With Toyota and Nissan already exiting the LMP1 class and Porsche heading to Formula E, Toyota is the only manufacturer in the class. Should road based cars be allowed, Aston Martin will compete against the likes of Ferrari’s, McLaren’s and then some.

The roadgoing Valkyrie will boast a 6.2-liter Cosworth-sourced V-12 engine with a KERS-style hybrid system. The powertrain combination may lead to a 1,130 horsepower rating with a Ricardo 7-speed transmission on board for shifting duties. There’s also the track-only Valkyrie AMR promises Formula 1-like track times with specific racing tires, less weight, more power, and a ton of downforce. Interesting times ahead!
