Aston Martin, the British luxury car maker, inaugurated a new dealership based in New Delhi in association with Select Cars. Covering a total area of 13,000 sq. ft., this new outlet will be used to exhibit 4 models and will also have a service centre. This new showroom will be Aston Martin's second in India after the first outlet it opened in Mumbai, Maharashtra in April 2011.

“It's been a long process to ensure that we have the right longterm business partner for Aston Martin in the Northern region of India. Select Cars has a proven track record in the automotive industry on many levels with a strong focus on trained staff and customer service and we look forward to starting a successful relationship,” said Andy Gawthorpe, Global Sales Director, Aston Martin.

On the occasion, Yadur Kapur, Executive Director, Select Cars, commented, “We are sure this iconic brand will provide the Indian audience with an unparalleled driving experience.”

One of the most coveted car makers in the world, Aston Martin sells V12 Vantage, Vantage S (Coupe/Roadster), V8 Vantage Coupe, V8 Vantage Roadster, DB9 Coupe, DB9 Volante, DBS Coupe, DBS Volante and the Rapide. In India, the prices of its sports cars range from Rs. 1.8 to 4 crores.

Presently combating a slump in sales throughout the globe, the company has stated that it is anticipating decent volumes from the Indian market, despite being a late entrant in the country. Gawthorpe stated that the company entered India quite late since it was establishing a strong network in US and Europe. However, it now aims to gain a strong foothold in 160 to 170 new centres, including Mumbai and New Delhi. Aston Martin's sales figures in 2007 crossed 7,000 units, but it lost customers thereafter, with sales volumes of approximately 4,200 vehicles in 2011. In the year 2010, it sold 4,156 units, whereas 3,131 vehicles were rolled out in the 2009. The company has set its eyes on emerging markets to propel its growth, with focus on China, Middle East and India.

However, Gawthorpe declined quoting any figures about the company's sales expectations from India. He said, “We want to do good here. It is a long term business.” About the international market, he quipped, “The global market has not recovered yet. Economic conditions in the US, UK and in Europe are very different and difficult today than what we had in 2007.” He also did not say the number of units the car maker has sold in India since it stated operating the Mumbai showroom.
