      Apollo's foray into the two-wheeler tyre segment

      Apollo tyres unveiled its two-wheeler range of tyres for the Indian market today. These tyres are called the Acti series and are available in both tubeless and tube type.

      Designed and developed at Apollo’s R&D centre in Chennai, the company proudly added that the Acti series of tyres have been designed with the primary focus on grip, safety and comfort. New age polymer-based compounds have been utilised to make a stress free casing structure that provides extra protection at the tread and bead area.

      Apollo will make motorcycle rear tyres with three designs called actiGRIP R1 and R2 (block pattern), and actiZIP R3 (directional pattern). Directional pattern actiZIP R3’s are designed for both wet and dry conditions on highways. And the block pattern is meant for on-off road, urban and highway use varying climate conditions. Tyres for the front will be covered by the three designs called actiSTEER F1 (straight rib pattern) and actiZIP F2 and F3 (directional patterns). Most of the importance has been directed to strengthening the handling, braking and straight-line stability.

      On the other hand, scooter tyres get two models that incorporate directional patterns for both the front and rear called actiZIP S1 and S2. For the rear, there’s two block patterns on offer called actiGRIP S3 and S4. Directional patterns are important to lend accurate steering control and cornering. It is also significant in increasing tread mileage and road holding characteristics. Block patterns on the tread propose superior traction on terrains like sand and mud. Motorcycle front tyre sizes include 2.17 in both 17 and 18 inch. Rear tyre sizes include 2.75, 3.00 and 100/90 for both 17 and 18 inch. Scooter tyres are offered in 90/100 (10inch) and 90/90 (12inch).

      Speaking at the launch, Neeraj Kanwar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Apollo Tyres Ltd said, “Our R&D and product team have spent over two years in developing the two-wheeler tyres, which are best suited for the diverse Indian road conditions. Like always, we have tried to introduce a product range which will delight our customers and allow them to have a seamless and enjoyable riding experience.”

      Apollo’s Acti series of tyres will be available at authorised showrooms within a few days in all the major cities. Prices for these tyres will be on par with the segment leaders in the market currently.
