Market leader Maruti Suzuki has held the top spot in terms of sales since years now. However, Hyundai Motors has been the only automaker who has managed to stand close in terms of sales volumes. Introducing the AMT (known as AGS) concept to India, Maruti Suzuki has been generating impressive volumes from such models which is gaining popularity in the country. On the other hand, the Hyundai Motors does not have any AMT options on offer.

In order to boost up its sales and offer more to potential customers, Hyundai will be intruding AMT variants in selective models. Reports suggest that AMT variants will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Tamil Nadu. Post introduction of AMT models, it is likely that Maruti Suzuki might lose a considerable share to Hyundai every month. As for now, the Grand i10, Verna and Elantra are offered in automatic transmission options. As for Maruti, they have the AGS variants available in the Celerio, Alto K10, Wagon R and the Swift Dzire models.

Apart from the compact SUV which is expected to be launched at a later date, Hyundai is likely to offer AMT options on lower end models such as Eon, Xcent and the much talked about Santro, if it is re-launched. As the technology will be manufactured and assembled locally, we can expect to see Hyundai competitively price its products, especially against its direct competitor Maruti Suzuki.
