India’s oldest car Ambassador sold by Hindustan Motors was expected by many to turn into history soon. There have been reports that HM have been repeatedly posting losses and it was said that it couldn't be long before India’s official vehicle gets relegated to the pages of history.

However a recent story from Autocar India now reports that Hindustan Motors is in talks with foreign powertrain manufacturers to source a new diesel engine to replace the 1.5 litre diesel for the Ambassador. This may come as a surprise but India’s popularly called “Amby” may be in for a make-over.

Ambassador has already upgraded its LPG and CNG engines according to the new BS IV emission norms, reports Autocar India. It is the 2.0L diesel engine which is currently under going ARAI testing and may be upgraded soon. Hindustan Motors is also hopeful of selling at least 1000 units a month even in this fiscal year and is confident of making profits as well.
