Car sales are soaring in India and most of the car makers have lesser production than the actual demand. Most of the popular car models -especially from Maruti and Hyundai - have a waiting period of up to 4 months. Car makers are planning to end all the discount offer and festive season discounts on all their cars looking at the demand. This means customers will have to shell out at least 8-10 percent more in coming months.

“With demand already high and a huge waiting period on many popular models, the coming weeks will see a drop in rebates," said Mayank Pareek, Maruti’s executive officer, marketing & sales.

Till now Hyundai i10 fetched a rebate of up to Rs 36,500 but the same will be reduced now to only Rs. 15,000. The model is in huge demand and has a waiting period of up to 6 weeks. Similarly, Alto, Wagon R and other models that had discount up to Rs 45,000 will now have rebates up to only Rs. 15,000 – Rs. 20,000.

Small car from GM India, Chevrolet Spark is one of the fastest selling cars from GM’s portfolio. It had cashback benefits up to Rs 47,000 along with freebies like Rs. 13,000 maintenance plan and music system. These freebies will now be withdrawn from the offers available on the model. “There would be some changes in the customers incentives post-Diwali. The discounts now will not reflect the festive spirit when these are kept at all-time high to boost sales," GM vice-president (sales & marketing) Ankush Arora said.
