Mercedes-Benz is currently testing all-new versions of the G-Class. The tough looking, luxury off roader is due for an update, possibly sometime next year.

For 2017, the G-Class will feature a different design highlighted mainly by a wider body. It will also get a wider track, electro-mechanical steering and independent suspension at front. However, the popular boxy silhouette and the almost upright windshield will be carried over from the current car.

Mercedes is likely to use more of lightweight materials in the construction to reduce the weight by as much as 200kg. Power, meanwhile, will come from a range of in-line 6-cylinder engines, some coupled to Merc’s new 9-speed automatic.

There will of course be an AMG version in the form of the G63, complete with a high power V8 motor, different suspension components and a meaner looking body shell. We expect the G63 AMG to come out soon after the launch of the regular G-Class range.
