Mercedes-AMG was caught testing the all-new AMG GT four-door sedan performing the final testing rounds on the snow cladded roads wearing all the production performance bits.
In all its previous sightings on the civilised roads near Stuttgart, the prototype had hideous faux bolt-on body kit to hide its proportions. Now, however, the test mule was spotted playing in the snow with its Panamerican grille up front. There are massive air vents dominating the front bumpers as well which will add a sporty stance to the sedan. The headlight design is akin to the one seen on the newly-launched CLS-Class. The same design will make its way to other cars from the Three-Pointed Star including the much anticipated A-Class hatchback. The aggressive creases on the bonnet are tough to miss, however, the test mule is riding on simple AMG-spec wheels while the wing mirrors are rudimentary as well. At the rear, we can see the sporty rear spoiler for the first time. The petite rear wing is similar to the one seen on the AMG GT R. The quad-hexagonal exhaust tips are seen flanking the concealed diffusers. The tail lights seem to remain true to the one from the concept with sleek LED lighting signature as on the AMG GT. There are no details on the cabin as yet, but we expect it to be in line with its sporty siblings of the GT family.
The AMG four-door (official name is yet to be announced) will fill in the void created by the absence of the CLS63 in the Affalterbach line-up. So expect a fire-breathing turbocharged V8 under the hood with power figures reaching in excess of 600 horsepower. It will match the performance numbers of the impressive E63 AMG with its nine-speed transmission and 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. We are eager to know what the German carmaker will call this new niche performance sedan in their growing portfolio and that would only be possible when it unveils at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. It will lock horns with the likes of the Porsche Panamera and Maserati Ghibli apart from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
