Ford India that unveiled the Figo compact sedan concept at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show is now aiming to launch the production spec model. Along with the compact sedan, the company is also contemplating the new generation 2015 Figo hatchback for the Indian market. Both models have already launched in the Brazilian markets as Ka hatchback and Ka+ compact sedan, and has come to India for homologation and R&D purpose.
The new generation Ford Figo and Figo compact sedan will be produced at the company’s second manufacturing unit in Sanand, Gujarat. If reports are to be believed, the production will begin from April 1, 2015. The next generation Figo is likely to go on sale in the second quarter, 2015, while the Figo compact sedan is expected to be launched in the second half of 2015.
Both models are based on the thoroughly modified old Fiesta platform. With the use of high-tensile strength steel, the platform is lighter thus offering high fuel efficiency and performance. The hatchback gets an all-new exterior and interiors, and has grown in dimensions. Expect the SYNC AppLink with connectivity system installed in the next Figo siblings. The vehicle shares its design cues with the concept; however, there would be subtle changes to make it road compatible.
The new Figo hatchback is likely to get 1.5-litre diesel engine that also power the Fiesta sedan. The petrol version of the hatchback might feature the all-new 1.0-litre petrol engine that will replace the current 1.2-litre unit.
