Jaguar and Land Rover have issued a recall to replace the faulty airbags on the XF sedan and the Range Rover SUV in America. JLR joins the list of car makers that have been affected by the faulty design of the Takata airbags.
A total of 1.08 lakh car shave been affected and 54,000 cars have been recalled in the first phase of recall. Jaguar XFs manufactured between 2009 and 2011 and Range Rovers built between 2007 and 2011 have been affected. Preference is being given to areas with hot and humid climate as it tends to degrade the airbags faster. The degradation might result in release of metal shrapnel on deployment.
Considering that most of the Jaguars and Land Rovers in India were imported as CBUs back then, there is chance of some of the Indian cars also being affected by the issue. We are yet to get an official word from JLR India, there might be a recall here as well.
