      Agitated individuals protest against the increased petrol prices

      Demonstrations were planned by several organisations and local people in the country, in order to show their aggression on the rise in petrol prices. A group of traders showed protest at the Express road and lifted anti-government slogans in Kanpur. On the same lines, the members of Akhil Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal organised a protest at Ghantaghar.

      The President of Akhil Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Gyenesh Mishra said that the surge in the petrol prices has done a hole in the pocket of masses. He further said that with the constant increase in fuel prices, individuals are being forced to quit driving private vehicles. His members in protest further said that if petrol prices are not reduced, they will organise a demonstration at the Jantar Mantar on March 7.

      The local people of industrial city, including the professionals, expressed hurt sentiments with this move of the government. According to a number of individuals, increase in petrol prices has significantly impacted their monthly budget. Sudheer Singh, an investment banker was quoted as saying, “The increased petrol prices will disturb our budget. Already the cost of pulses, rice, wheat etc that we eat daily have gone up so high and now petrol. We cannot afford it. We condemn the price hike and expect nothing from the Congress government except inflation.”

      Further, the increase in surging prices of petrol and other consumable items added to the aggression of individuals. Mishra also urged localities to join their hands in the protests against increasing petrol prices and FDI. In Ahmedabad, the disappointed traders marched half naked at Power House crossing as a symbol of their protest. The agitated people said that after presenting an unfavourable Union Budget, the central government has now increased the prices of petrol.

      The President of Yuva Vyapar Mandal, Krishna Kumar Gupta said that the conditions for a common man have become worst, owing to the rising inflation and petrol prices. According to him, if the situation remains the same, the central government would witness not so good times in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
