According to sources, in order to grab a large share of the Indian automotive sector, Renault is shaping aggressive pricing strategies for its Duster. With the launch of Duster, Renault is aiming to increase its share in the domestic market since it has not been performing well following the launch of its Fluence, Koleos and Pulse. These models are the first 3 models of the proposed 5 and Duster will be the fourth to roll out.

Duster will have the advantage of being the first compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the market, thus creating a segment in India, one which has no other contenders as of now. The competitive price tag of the vehicle will assist the company in generating a positive image of the model amongst potential buyers, thereby making it highly successful. Renault will offer the diesel variant with a price tag little above Rs. 7 Lacs and the petrol model in sub-Rs. 6 lacs category. It is anticipated that it will be joined by Mahindra mini-Xylo by the end of the year.

The 1.5 litre petrol powertrain which does duty in the Sunny sedan will also feature in the Indian version of the Duster. On the other hand, a 1.5 litre diesel unit will power the diesel variant of the model. Features like Antilock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), brake assist, leather upholstery and keyless entry will be integrated in the high-end variants of the compact SUV.

Renault's manufacturing plant at Orgadam near Chennai will start producing Duster by July 2012 and the vehicle will hit the dealerships in the following month. According to Dacia, a subsidiary of Renault, Duster will be sold in the British car market from January 2013; hence, the company will start exporting the car from early next year as well.
