After marking its re-entry in the D-segment by launching new Elantra Fluidic at a starting price of Rs. 12.51 lakhs, Hyundai Motor India Limited is planning to launch a diesel engine variant of its bestselling compact hatchback i10 along with a new vehicle in the utility vehicle segment. While the diesel powered Hyundai i10 is planned gauging the rising customer preference for diesel cars, the new utility vehicle is streamlined owing to the robust demands for the vehicles in the Indian market.

During the launch event of new Hyundai Elantra Fluidic, the company affirmed that the broadening demand for the diesel cars in India is prompting Hyundai to introduce the i10 hatchback in a diesel powertrain. The company has registered a 15 percent plunge down in sales this year and since the diesel car sales currently dominates the sales in the country, Hyundai is seeking it as an apt opportunity to introduce diesel variant in the mass market segment.

Along with focus established on diesel run vehicles, Hyundai is endeavouring to roll out a new utility vehicle, probably a mini SUV or MPV.

Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Vice-President (National Sales), Hyundai Motor India Limited, “The UV segment has been evolving and growing very rapidly. We’re studying the market and will announce our plans when we’re ready.”

As compared to passenger car segment that has showcased growth at a slow pace, the utility vehicle segment dominated by Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, witnessed a jump by 54 percent in sales.
