India is no doubt world’s biggest small car market but the country is growing and so is its purchasing power. Customer preferences are changing too. India is slowly gearing up for larger cars, especially entry level sedans.

Automakers in India have already sensed the need in this segment and major players like Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Skoda and others are developing models to suit customer tastes. The best available option is to introduce compact cars in sedan segment that are developed on existing platforms. However, companies are also making fresh plans to build such cars from scratch that may ask for huge investments.

Currently, Tata Indigo CS, Maruti Swift Dzire, Mahindra Renault Logan, Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Aveo, Hyundai Verna are some of the entry level sedans that are selling in good numbers in India but there is still enough space for new entrants in the A3 segment.

Toyota will launch its small car Etios in some time and plans to introduce a sedan model of the same as well later. Honda also intends to develop a sedan model on the same platform on which it will manufacture its small car model. This sedan model will fill the gap between its small car and Honda City. Volkswagen will launch Polo hatchback by March first week and its sedan variant by end of this year. Prices of these models have not been revealed so far but all these models will fall in the price bracket of Rs. 4.5 lakh to 6 lakh.
