Actual images of 2012 Skoda Superb Ambition setting new heights in premium sedan segment

Skoda Auto India, the completely owned subsidiary of Skoda Auto, has come up with a new model, Superb Ambition in the sedan segment of the Indian auto industry. The company has launched a new base variant of its successful sedan, Superb Ambition in a cut down price range on 18th April 2012. We are among the lucky few who witnessed the grand unveiling of this premium car, Superb Ambition, in Mumbai.

In order to remain parallel with the demands of buyers, the company has offered petrol as well as diesel versions of its newly launched Superb Ambition. The petrol variant is equipped with a 1.8 litre turbocharged engine, which will generate peak power of 160 bhp at a low rpm. In addditon, the petrol engine of Superb Ambition delivers brilliant torque of 250 Nm at low 1500-2500 rpm. To deliver flawless output, the engine of Superb Ambition is incloreporated with a efficient 6 speed manual gearbox, which offers smooth and easy switching of gears.

As far as diesel variant is concenred, it is assimilated with a 2.0 litre TDI powertrain, which has the potential to churn out peak power of 140 bhp at 4200 rpm, whereas it will generate highest torque of 320 Nm at low 1750-2500 rpm. To further assist the performance of this engine, it is incorporated with a 6 speed DSG gearbox.

Owing to the configuration of both the engines, we speculated that the car will grab the attention of several auto aficionados, who considers driving as a sport. Since Ambition is an entry level sedan, it lacks few features, which are incorporated within the top-end variant. These features include headlamp washers, sunroof, cruise control, hill hold as well as descent functions, bluetooth and steering-mounted controls Xenon head lights, front proximity sensors and tyre pressure monitor. In addition to this, the car also compromises over the touch screen module and thus, the passengers have to operate a manual version.

Instead of a six CD changer, the car is equipped with a single CD changer, which will not put much impact on the occupants of this premium sedan. Apart from these changes, the car still boasts of a number of safety advancements that ensures a complete safety of its passengers. These features include 8 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Break-force Distribution (EBD), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Anti Slip Regulation (ASR).

Owing to these features, the petrol version of Superb Ambition is competitively priced at Rs. 18 lacs, whereas the diesel version is offered with a tag of Rs. 22.5 lacs (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). With this price range, the car will deliver a stiff coimpetition to other cars of the same segment that includes parent company’s Jetta, Honda Accord and Hyundai 2012 Sonata.
